John C. Yocum

1972/1973

John C. Yocum was elected Commander-in-Chief of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War at the 91st National Encampment held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, August 13 - 17, 1972. Brother Yocum's grandfather, Jacob H. Yocum, served in Company G., 23rd Pennsylvania Volunteers, during the Civil War.

Brother Yocum in 1926 became a member of Major M.A. Gherst Camp #51 in Darby, Pennsylvania, which in 1955 consolidated with the Bradbury Camp #149 in Media. He has served in many Camp, Department, and National Organization offices. He was elected Department Commander of Pennsylvania in 1947, and again in 1967; Junior Vice Commander-in-Chief in 1970; and Senior Vice Commander-in-Chief in 1971.

Brother Yocum recently retired from the Scott Paper Company, Chester, Pennsylvania, where he held an executive position for 28 years. He is a Master Mason of Fernwood Lodge #341, F.A. & M., Germantown Council #53, Royal and Select Masters of Pennsylvania; Abington Royal Arch Chapter #245; Philadelphia Lodge of Perfection; Dejoinville Council Prince of Jerusalem; Kilwinning Chapter Rose Croix; Benjamin Franklin Consistery; LuLu Temple; Delaware County Shrine Club; Past President of Scott Travelers Club; Past Sachem of Menokin Tribe #381, Improved Order of Red Men; and Past Master of Bartram Assembly #55, Artisans Order of Mutual Protection.
