Richard L. Greenwalt

1978/1979

Richard L. Greenwalt was elected Commander-in-Chief of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War at the 97th National Encampment held in Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 13-17, 1978.

Brother Greenwalt's grandfather, Peter R. Greenwalt, served as a private in Company I, 10th Regiment Volunteers. He was discharged at the end of the War.

Richard joined McClellan Camp #91 in Alliance, Ohio in 1965. He was elected Camp Commander in 1967, Department Commander in 1968 and Commander of the Central Region in 1973. He has served the National Organization as a member of the Legislative Committee, Patriotic Instructor, Junior Vice Commander-in-Chief, and Senior Vice Commander-in-Chief. At the time of his election, he was also serving as Secretary-Treasurer of the Ohio Department and McClellan Camp,

Brother Greenwalt joined the Sons of Veterans Reserve in 1971. At the present time, he is Quartermaster on the National Staff, Adjutant for the Third Military District and Adjutant for his regiment, the 19th Ohio.

He has been employed as a teacher for 28 years. His family consists of his daughter, grandson and mother.
