Raphael Tobias, Grand Division Commander, Sons of Veterans, USA, was mustered into Lafayette Camp No. 140, January 25, 1889 as member number 33. He was 21 years old. He was born In New Haven, Connecticut. He resided at 20 Spruce St., New York, New York and listed his occupation as a clerk.

He was elected Camp Commander in 1906 and was at one time a Grand Division Commander, Sons of Veterans, USA. He died May 30, 1922.

His father, Julius Tobias, served from October 1862 to November 1863 as a 2nd Lt. with the 13th Connecticut Volunteers. He was member of Fred Hecker GAR Post No. 408, Department of New York. In 1907 meetings were held at 260 E. 41st. St., New York.
