William W. Haskell
Commander-in-Chief 1967 / 1968


William W. Haskell was elected Commander-in-Chief of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War at the 86th National Encampment held in Chicago, Illinois, August 10, 1967. Brother Haskell's great-grandfather, Henry W. Furbush, served two enlistments in Company G., 1st Maine Volunteer Cavalry from October 31, 1861 to June 27, 1864.

Brother Haskell joined Camp #12 in Hingham, Massachusetts in 1926 and transferred to Captain R.B. Grover Camp #17 in Brockton, Massachusetts in 1933. He has served in all of the offices of the Camp and was Commander in 1938. He was elected Department Commander in 1944 and has been the Department Secretary for the past five years. He served as Senior Vice Commander-in-Chief last year. Brother Haskell is Chairman of the Board of Tustees for all the Grand Army of the Republic property in the city of Brockton. He is employed by Fairway Acres in Westward, Massachusetts, as an interior decorator. Interested in sports, he has been a baseball umpire for over 40 years.
