GAR Encampment Reenactment and Monument Dedication
West Union, Iowa

Abernethy Camp 48 in West Union will be hosting a ÔreenactmentÕ of the G.A.R. Veteran Reunions which were held in West Union for many years. This
will be an encampment on the Fayette County Courthouse lawn. We will set-up camp Saturday morning and conclude Sunday morning. There will be a community
Sunday morning worship on the grounds and a dedication to follow.
Sunday, June 1, Abernethy Camp 48 will re-dedicate the West Union VeteransÕ Monument at 12 noon. The monument is currently under restoration. This will be an extension of the G.A.R Encampment on the Fayette County Courthouse grounds, and will follow the original dedication of 1914 as close as possible. We will march from the Courthouse grounds to the cemetery for the re-dedication.
