History
Members of the V.P. Twombley Camp # 2 salute the namesake of their camp, Voltaire Paine Twombley. Twombley was a union Soldier from Iowa who, at great personal risk, carried the 2nd Iowa Regimental Flag into the Rebel works at Fort Donelson, Tennessee in February of 1862. Although three other color bearers fell wounded, Twombley bore the colors gallantly to the battle. Corporal Twombly was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
