General Order #19
SERIES 2010-2011
23 May 2011
Memorial Day
-
On 5 May, 1868 General John A. Logan, Commander in Chief of the Grand Army of the Republic, published General Order #11, “Establishing the 30th day of May for the purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in the defense of their Country during the late rebellion, and who’s bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet church yard in the land.”
-
As Camps and Departments of the SUVCW honor the Boys in Blue on this 143rd anniversary of that Order let us be mindful and honor all men and women who serve or have served in our military.
-
All Camps are directed to participate in some form of appropriate observance of this 30th day of May 2011.
Ordered this 23rd Day of May, 2011.
