General Order #11

SERIES 2010-2011

28 February 2011

It is with great sadness that I must report the last WWI doughboy Corporal Frank Buckles passed away Sunday, 27 February 2011 in his home in Charles Town, West Virginia.  Corporal Buckles was 110 years old at the time of his death.  He was the last known American Veteran of that war.

Frank Buckles cattle farm in West Virginia was not far from several Civil War battlefields.

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and its sixty six hundred members honor the almost five million Americans who answered their country's call during World War I.

We express our condolences to Corporal Buckles’ daughter Susannah Buckles Flanagan and her husband.

The family asks that donation be made to the National World War One Legacy Project to honor Buckles and the 4, 734,991 Americans that served during World War 1.

Ordered this 28th Day of February, 2011.

Brad Schall
Commander-In-Chief
Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War

Attest:

Eugene Mortorff
