Saturday, 20 November 2010, has been set aside for the 54th annual observance of Remembrance Day in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and the Sons of Veterans Reserve, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War cordially invites you and/or your Unit to participate in the Parade and attend the Grand Military Ball later in the day.
The Sons of Veterans Reserve (SVR) will hold a SVR breakfast on Saturday, 20 November 2010 at the Eisenhower Inn on Emmitsburg Pike (US Business Route 15) south of Gettysburg. The breakfast is restricted to SVR members and their family members. It will start at 8:00 A.M. and will cost $12.00 per person before November 1, 2010, $15.00 after November 1, 2010.
A Parade Briefing for all participants is scheduled for 9:30 A.M. on 20 November 2010 at the Eisenhower Inn. All units participating in the Parade should send a representative to this briefing. At this time, specific information and instructions regarding the parade will be announced, so it is important that each Unit have a representative in attendance.
At 11:00 A.M., a brief ceremony will take place at the GAR Memorial in the National Park and all SVR Units should plan to be in attendance at this ceremony.
Units should form for the Parade at 12:00 P.M. on Lefever Street between Baltimore Street and East Confederate Avenue. The parade will move at 1:00 P.M. north on East Confederate Avenue to East Middle Street; left (west) on East Middle Street to Baltimore Street, left (south) on Baltimore Street to Steinwehr Avenue; up Steinwehr Avenue to the National Park entrance, where the parade will terminate.
All Units will maintain 20 feet between them and the unit in front of them. No Unit will be permitted to stop along the parade route after leaving the mustering area. Mounted Units will exit at the entrance to the National Park by continuing straight on Steinwehr Avenue then turning west (right) on the next available street. All mounted personnel are responsible for the clean up and removal of all manure from their mounts.
Under the terms of the permits we have for the ceremonies, troops are permitted to keep bayonets fixed and swords drawn. This permission only applies while troops are participating in the Federal and Confederate ceremonies. Troops which leave these two ceremonies are subject to the terms of their own permits.
All commanders are reminded they are responsible for ensuring that their troops do not have any ammunition, powder or caps, upon their persons. Cap pouches and cartridge boxes must be checked before the parade begins. The Park Service Police will be checking!
Enclosed is a Flyer for Remembrance Day 2010 included is a Registration Form for Units, a Registration Form for Horses, the Policy for Participation in the Remembrance Day Parade. Please complete the ONLINE Unit Registration Form and, if applicable, the ONLINE Horse Registration Form to the SVR Provost Marshal, Major Charles E. Kuhn . His home address, phone, and e-mail address are on the Forms. There is no fee for the parade. But, the applicable Form or Forms must be returned to Major Charles E. Kuhn by 1 November 2010 .
Later in the evening of 20 November, the Eisenhower Inn, on the Emmitsburg Pike, will be the site for the Grand Military Ball. The Ball will begin at 9:00 P.M. See separately enclosed sheet for further specific details. All proceeds from the Ball ($5,000.00 in 2009) go to the National Military Park for monument preservation.
